Default Bumper

I got my Jeep last December, its an 07 2 door X. I love it, other than it's front tube bumper, I hate it. If I could "throw it in the trash" and buy a new one I would, but I can't afford a whole new bumper right now. I was wondering what the two welded holes are in the bumper. Circled below. I was thinking its for mounting a winch, or maybe a recovery point. My wrangler also has no front or rear recovery points. Where could I connect a recovery strap on the Jeep if it was needed.
Thanks in advance for all your help!

Holes are for fog lights. Don't look strong enough for recovery, or winch - couldn't carry the weight. As you have no hooks or d-rings, best shot for recovery would be to wrap strap around the bumper, or around the frame. Good luck!

Light mounts. Agreed on the tube bumpers, theyre not that great looking. When you get ready for a new bumper, get ready to spend hours online looking at them all haha

Never thought about that, that's probably what they are for. Thanks!

Already have lol. I've been looking around on my local craigslist. So expensive and don't want to worry about installation. Thanks

I don't understand. People say not to put a recovery strap around the bumper as it might get ripped off, but what's the difference in getting pulled out from the d rings or tow hooks that are attached directly to the bumper?

would all depend on strength of the bumper materials - bumpers with D rings are typically stout and carry the load. guessing on the tube bumper there would be a risk of bending it at least vs pulling it off. some tube bumpers are pretty stout and could take the load for a least a while in an emergency....

So long as the bumper is properly bolted to the frame and the bumper isn't made of paper thin tubing, that's your only option. The ideal thing is to have d-ring mounts for some good strong shackles but you should be okay with throwing a strap around the main horizontal bars. Start saving your pennies and go with a quality bumper whether you choose to go with a winch or non-winch bumper. Yes, my friend, them tube bumpers are quite the eyesore at least you have good enough taste to have the desire to change it. Good luck on your search for a new one and post up some pics once you change it out.
