They are an acquired taste. I run the pockets for two reasons... mudding and covering my tires. It keeps down the spray more than my flat flares in the past. I also like for my tires to be covered. Just a personal preference.

They are made to be replaced as needed. I hit a an adult size cow on a trip through Utah and the cow went right under the Jeep. No damage except a small crack in my driver's side front fender. I had just put Reid Racing knuckles on and that really raised the tow bar... think it made a huge difference in how the Jeep managed no damage.

$400 and I can replace the (front) flares. And this is the first time I've had real damage. Once got stuck on a motorcycle trail (sign down) and had (huge!) branches attacking us from all sides. Paint took a beating, but the flares just flexed and absorbed the punishment. Only thing I would do is be careful not to get gas (or leave it) on them at fill up. Can dull them. And they really sparkle with Armor All... I've been told!

Default Cow

I can talk about it now, but was a bit traumatized. It was late at night, driving through the pre-Thanksgiving snow south of Hanksville, UT. Saw cows the whole way... flashing signs, cattle guards... But had a car in the distance coming toward me and went to low beams. Cow never stood a chance. Black cow in the fog, pitch black and low beams.

Jeep actually came off the ground rolling over the cow. If the cow had been facing me, might have been a totally different story. Could not believe no (Jeep) damage. Certainly the stinger was the key. Cow was crushed.
