Is the jeep still drivable?

Blew up my Spider gears yesterday on the trail. Took off the diff cover and took out all the chunks and shavings then refilled the oil just to get me off the trail and home.

This morning I cleaned the diff, got all the shavings out and re sealed the cover and put tr proper oil in. I noticed the ring gears are chipped as well.

Question is, has anyone drove like this for a short period? Like a week to and from work.

I don't want to cause further damage but if I can get away with driving 5 miles to work without harm it would be awesome.

Thanks

Why not just pull the axle shafts? If the gears aren't spinning, they don't get more damaged, or cause more damage.

That's a busted front end, pull the front shafts and drive it like normal until you can get around to fixing it.

Thats the plan for wednesday (buddy gets back to town and is going to help me). Im just wondering if I can get away with driving as is till then. I drove around the block after cleaning out the chunks and putting new oil and I dont hear anything clanking or unusual. The only new noise I hear since the trail is a fast ticking noise that increases when I press the throttle.

Thanks!

I wouldn't in fear of damaging the housing. !f another piece breaks off wedging itself between the ring and housing it could crack it. Most likely wouldn't happen but certainly a possibility.

honestly, with your drive being as short as it is, Id leave it alone completely. The ring is already chewed up and all the fragments were pulled from the housing. Youll be fine.

Pull thd axle shafts out even if you going down the street. You don't want to damage the carrier or the housing. Going straight is ok it's when you turn is the problem more for the spider gears my brake off
