Default C Gussets

How much did you pay to have EVO C gussets welded on your axle? Just got mine and want to have them welded by a pro, my welds look like crap.

Ricrac: I just took the jk to the 4X4 shop. I can only say that they are putting on the Northridge long travel OME kit and at the same time welding front and rear skids over the control arm mounts and also welding the C gussets, total labor price= $500. I will see if they can break it out once it's done. (The only thing that worries me is the gusset welds )

I paid $350 to have the magnum 44 sleeves, c-gussets, front lower control arm skids and new ball joints installed. (oh yeah.......they painted the axle too.)

My local shop initally quoted me 150 in labor for the cheap way and 250 to do it the good way. The good way supposedly meant they were going to pull the axles/ball joints and do all the additional cooling/waiting to prevent anything tweaking from the heat. Well after I saw those prices and knowing I was going to opt for the "good way" I said screw it and had them also do sleeves lca skids, reinforce the stock lca brackets/TB brackets, and I had them fix one of my plug welds on my rear diff. total labor cost was like 600, i supplied the parts.

We charge aruond $100, it does take about 2 hours to weld them on and cool them off properly. We have done mine and 3 other sets in the past year with no issues.

$500 just for the gussets seems like way too much. I know a lot if involved, but damn. I would check other places.

for the gussets you need to be very careful about the amount of heat, especially around the ball joints. you can't weld for very long and you must let it cool before proceeding or you will simply destroy the joints. doing a little at a time on one side, then jumping to the other side, switching from upper to lower, etc. will limit the amount of heat. be sure to allow for proper cooling before proceeding. well worth the hassle though
