Just a suggestion, get you a pre-filter( helps shed water and keeps alotta dust out), and also get some pipe insulation to run around the top edge for a better seal against the hood. I took it one step further and added a homade splash guard to the front and siliconed at the bottom. I've had no issue going through reasonable mud and water, the filter stays dry.

Basically I cut a piece of roof flashing( orginally used a piece of fender liner) to fit in the front spot where there is nothing. Wedged it in , abit of silicone and it hasn't moved in over 10,000m. If you look at the pic, the front piece of pipe insulation is on the homade guard in front, the ins is not just laying there. I made this for the front because a good bit of water can kick up through that spot.
