Cam bolts
I am shopping for a 2.5 to 4 inch lift kit, and everything I have read about using cam bolts vs LCAs is that I dont want them. People seem to have trouble keeping them tight, pain in the ass to go back if you desire to, etc. What lift kit in this range does not use cam bolts? Or are there any? Does anyone know at what point you either need to use them or change out the LCAs? I would rather wait when I have more money and buy some LCAs than punch out the slots to run cam bolts. Need past experiences, good or bad, from cam bolt users.
Thanks
Thanks
The cam bolts suck donkey nads. If you are going with a suspension lift 2.5 to 4" then find a system that has adjustable LCA's. What is your price range?
Don't make the same mistake I did and buy cheap. Yes, I wanted lift but tried to do it on a limited budget. It ended up costing me more because I bought junk and was not happy. I then had to turn around and sell junk for a fraction of what I paid for it and then buy what I should have bought in the first place. You get what you pay for!!!
I am extremely happy with my Rock Krawler 3.5 mid arm X set up with 5100 series Bilstiens.

cam bolts are a cheap solution for adjusting caster and one that you will regret installing. as mentioned, you probably won't need any caster adjustment at just 2.5" of lift but, if you do decide you want to add more anyway, adjustable front lower control arms are the way to go.

I just got my 4" Superlift in the mail and my wheels arrive today so I may be "movin' on up" this weekend, weather permitting. The 4" Superlift can fit 35's without trimming or 37 (which is what I have for my 4 door) with some fender trimming if you're flexing it out. This kit comes with Cam bolts. It's just under a grand with the mid level shocks. I decided to avoid the whole cam bolt issue, even though I have a welder and learned to do some decent welding in the Navy which would help me in fixing the holes if I don't like the cam bolt set up. Superlift offers (which I ordered) fixed lower control arms for the front that are designed specifically to adjust for the necessary caster required for this particular lift on the 4 doors. If the company you go with doesn't have a fixed option, adjustables would be the way to go, just know that you'll have to dial them in. I know you were looking for testimonies from cam bolt users, and I can't help there but I can say that I was looking around for a similar thing that you are and found LOADS of people advising to avoid cam's and virtually none saying "they're fine". It seems to me that the cam bolts are a cheap way for the lift manufacturers to make their kit "work" and to keep the price down, even though they themselves will even recommend using LCA's.
I installed a 3" lift and didn't know about the whole non-adjustable control arm thing. I then went to 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers and asked them to aline it. I got it back a week later (long story) and they said it is alined. I didn't make it out of the parking lot without DEATH WOBBLE! I took it back and asked them to do it again. They said "that is the way it is. The cam bolts are adjusted as far as possible." CAM BOLTS
He said "if you want it done right you need adjustable control arms." I told him "I wanted it done right and is the reason I had them do it", at the time I didn't know they are idiots (like I said, thats a different story).
The point I'm getting to is:
They had cam bolts in mine and it still didn't have enough caster.
I had them weld it up and I installed Teraflex adjustable control arms. I would go with an adjustable arm for sure. Adjsutable track bars also.

Our 3.5" kit might be an option for you. It includes fixed lower arms to compensate for the lift. Also, a lot of time and resources went into the ride quality and handling of the kit. I think it's a good setup for $499
