Default Came into a problem with gears! Need help

Ok heres my problem I ordered 4.56 gears for my 2 Door 6spd.

Running Nitto Trail Grapplers M/T 35's
RK 2.5" Stock Mod lift with RK LCA's

Mostly travel street but get out on the trail least twice a mth. Well heres my problem I ordered my gears but there on back order for a mth at least. Rusty's called me back an kinda talked me into going with 4.88 but still am up in the air about it. With gas being what it is now it dont want to be getting 12mpg or less. Im getting a lil over 16mpg now an thats running 3.21's...

I really dont travel much hwy but back counrty roads that are windy an hilly here in southwesteren pa with speed limit of anywhere from 25-50 so its kinda like hwy when your going lkke 10-15 over LOL...

So here in turn is my questions for anyone out there running 4.56 an 4.88... What would you suggest going with cause I get the 4.88 shipped now but I dont want to over gear for my needs.. Im looking for a gear that can get me bout what im getting now mpg's wise but still add performance too. If the RPM's arent that much of a difference between the 2 then i guess it doesnt matter right? or wrong?

Can anyone please help

Thank you

Wow exact same issue I just threw up my hands figured 4.88 can't be much worse than 4.56 and who knows I may want to go 37s one day?

Im pretty sure you will be able to tell from one gear to the next. Im not as familiar with the gearing on jeeps. See if you can find a gear chart online or on this website.
there are charts that can give you the answers you are looking for. They will show what gears to put you close to stock.....mileage.....power, etc as well as what rpms you will be running. There is one thats color coded thats a pretty good one. I know thats not real life experience for you, but you may check into that.

I got 37's now and looking to get new gears. I read that I should get 5.38. Anyone know how that would be?
