can a wheel not work because of a offset.
We have been looking at new wheels for our jk unlimited. The ones we like were BRP 94R. When I talked to the company they said that the wheels had too big of an offset to use with a jeep with only a 2" lift. They recommended a min of 4" and preferred 6". I checked them online and the offsets were +12, 0, -12, and -25. They are 17x9 wheels. Even if I decided to use the _25 offset that should still work depending on how big my tires are correct?

Yes that is correct. When I did the formula for backspacing the -12mm = 4.5" backspacing and the -25mm = 4" backspacing. Neither seems to be too extreme which is why I was asking if they were correct saying that I needed a min of 4" lift.
i efectively have a 3.25" backspacing (3.5" bs with a .25 spacer to clear the caliper) on my 15s. i'm running a 33 with a 2.5 budget boost. I rub a little bit at full flex, but that is also due to my longer shocks.
i would say its fine to run a 4" bs.

Thanks for the info. I thought that didn't sound right. We have only owned our jeep for a week. I have another question.... the bolt pattern on my 2011 unlimited is 5x5 or 5x127mm correct?

They don't know what they're talking about. Right now between my wheels and wheel spacers I have 2" of backspacing, and these are 10" wide wheels. Potential problems you may run into are scrubbing the air dam but a saw fixes that. I'm not sure why they wouldn't recommend the wheels to you.
Another thing to look for when you talk to RBP: tell them you need the wheels that have a "cone" style hub" not flat. More specifically tell them you need the 5x5 ONLY pattern not their wheels that do both 5x5 AND ?x?. Those dual fitted wheels required more "metal" around the lug area and will not clear your front brake calipers. I'll look for my pics and post what I am talking about.
