Default Can't make up my mind!!!

Please help I am crossed up between two different tires, Maxxis Buckshot Mudders and Maxxis Bighorns. I had the Buckshots on my F250 and was happy with them but I like the way the Bighorns look as well but never had them. I am going to run 35x12.50x15 on 15x10 inch wheels on my 2 door X. I will be about 50/50 trail and road. The trails I am going to ride the most will be Tellico, Uwharrie, and Beasley Knob, and some dirt roads and swamp around here. I just want to know if anybody has either tire and how they do on rocks and mud ( I know how the buckshots do in the mud, just wondering about rocks with them). Any pics of them on your jeeps would be great too. Thanks

Neither, Buckshots are throwbacks from the 90's. Maxxis bought the name from Denman I think but they changed the tread pattern drastically. I've owned an older set and they were only good for mud hence the old name Buckshot Mudder but even then there were better mud tires. Even ProComps mud tire is better than Buckshots.

And go with 15 inch wheels? Why bother? You would be better off buying one of the many JK Rubicon tire/wheel sets from the forum for sale section. The BF Goodrich Mud T/A KM is the perfect 50/50 tire and you would save a major chuck of change to do all the other mods you list.

I wanted to go with a 15 inch wheel because #1 They are less expensive, #2 The tires are less expensive. I would save money to do the other mods if I go this route. Plus 15 inch wheels give more rubber to flex on rocks and grab than a 16 or 17 inch wheel and tire. A 315/75/16 in BFG Mud is 239.99 each, 35x12.50x17 is 252.99 and 35x12.50x15 is 188.99. I can get the Maxxis Bighorns for about 146.00 each. I am going to buy 5 so that I have all tires and wheels the same incl. the spare. The wheels are more expensive too and that adds up after a while. With the money I save I can buy a front bumper. The rubicon tires are a 32 inch (I think) and that would look pretty funny with a 4 inch suspension lift. I liked the Buckshot mudders I had them on my other truck for a year and put 20,000 miles on them with no problems what so ever, they even had more than half the tread life still when I traded it. I like the look of the Bighorns because of the sidewall tread. I see where you are coming from though BFG is a great tire but your also paying for all that advertising they do. I am on somewhat of a budget so I am trying to get my bang for the buck. If I had unlimited supply of money I would go a totally different route, you can bet on that. Plus I am trying to get everything I need before I go to Tellico in OCT. Thanks for the info.

in my opinion, i would go with a brand of tire that you can easily purchase without gng to a specialty shop or mail order. thats why i went with the BFG MTs and 15 wheels. you're right....15" wheels are cheaper, tires are cheaper. thats why i didn't even mess with the stock wheels.

I'd go with the Bighorns rather that the Buckshots. I have the Bighorns. No complaints from me. I also ran them on the Scrambler I used to own, in a 35x12.50x15. You might be happier going with an 8" wheel though.

Why an 8 inch as opposed to a 10 inch wide wheel?

I love my Bighorns. They are a stable tire with little road noise and handle really well. I can't say anything about offroad yet since most of my trails out here are closed for a massive fire. But here is a side shot of my 34" tires.

I agree with 2K1TJ, get 15x8" wheels if you are running a 12.50 wide tire.
