Default Can't track down noise...

So I was on a long distance trip, and I noticed that I have an odd vibration noise that I can't isolate. Here are some descriptions...

-Happens in 4th/5th gear at 30+ mph.

-Mid frequency sound, like something is lose.

-Only happens when power is applied.

-I can push in the clutch and apply power and there is no noise, but when I let the clutch out it comes back.

-I've climbed under the jeep, no bolts are lose, about the only thing out of the ordinary is that the flange that my drive shaft, a JE REEL, attaches to has a rather large chip taken out and some of where the drive shaft bolts in is exposed. I don't think this is it, because the exposed area is already corroded and this is a new noise.

-Sounds like it is come from more aft of the center of the vehicle, but I'm totally guessing on that as I'm doing 50mph when it's loud.

So, who has the magic answer and wins a 6 pack of their choice adult beverage?

There are some TSB's out there you might look at. I think there's one that deals with some clutch issues. You might check them out and see if the TSB descriptions describe the noise you're hearing/feeling.

Well... had the dealer check out what the noise was when I had my 30k mile service done....

Seems as if my rear differential is eating itself alive... seriously? It's only been 2 months since I had it regeared and lockers put in! I haven't even had a chance to go wheeling!!! Why did I give up quaaludes for Lent????

The shop that I had install my gears popped open my rear dif, apparently the gears had become de-laminated. They didn't damage the locker, luckily. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? And how would a gear de-laminate? If they are forged there shouldn't be anything to come off. The manufacturer is covering the parts under a 1 year warranty.

Default Guess ?

Could it be your throw out bearing? you didn't mention your mileage but sounds like a possibility.

It's been 2k since I had the gears put in, 30k vehicle miles. It's de-laminated gears.
