Default Carbon Fiber Armor

Has anyone made a carbon fiber skid plate, bumper, or rocker? Seems like it would be beneficial. It won't rust and is light weight, but is it rigid enough to stand up to the weight of the jeep? I assume so, as long as its engineered right.

I think a skid would work good but a bumper or rockers would be stupid money because of the thickness needed.

Carbon fiber is very strong when it comes to torsional rigidity and it's ability to resist flex and twisting forces. It is not strong at all when it comes to impact resistance. You'd be better off using 1/16" aluminum sheet.

Hi guys

I think this would be a really BAD idea.....

Carbon is very strong and light, but also very brittle. It shatter at the slightest impact..... So not good as a bumper.

It is also easy to work... i.e. you can cut is with a hack saw, file and sand it easily. So not good for a skid plate.....

Hi grade hardened aluminium would be much better.

Regards
Paul

If you plan to go this route, at least use the carbon/Kevlar weave. It would hold up tear and wear much better. That's what rally cars use. Carbon alone with fall apart, like others have already mentioned.
