Default carrier and spider gears

When buying a new lower ratio carrier do I have to get new internals as well? I currently have 3.21 and running 37s. Going to go with 4.88 and I know that in addition to new ring and pinion I have to get new carriers, but I cant find any info if the spider gears and stuff inside will transfer over.

The new carrier should accommodate the existing spider gear assembly, check with the vendor of the carrier to make sure. ohhhh, and make sure to use a master install kit.

The last I priced out a gear swap for someone was if you currently have 3.73 or 4.10 you won't need a different carrier to goto 4.88 or 5.13's
If your higher like a 3.21 yes you need a different carrier

singular. You only need one for the front d30.

Any thoughts on a front limited/locker instead? Just grab a truetrac and don't worry about the new carrier.

I would love to just put lockers in but the cost is out of the question

Bah, you can scrounge up another $300 for a front truetrac. And then another $460 for the rear. See how good I am at spending your money!!

But yeah, I understand the budget thing. Was just thinking that spending a bit more for a great traction device beats paying for a new open carrier.

To be honest, I really haven't seen any thing on the east coast where a Rubicon had that much of an advantage over nonlocked axles
