so you dont knock it off.

Moving the exhaust just ensures you don't damage the muffler when rock crawling/off roading, etc. It helps with the departure angle, I guess. I really didn't see the need to relocate due to the way I use my Jeep, but it depends what your plans are for your rig...

There is also a performance increase by having the can as far back in the exhaust system as possible. The muffler acts as the biggest heat sync which in turn slows down exhaust gases. The further back it is keeps the exhaust velocity high through as much of the system as possible before the exhaust gases contract as they lose heat. So don't want to knock it off, relocate it. If you want to pick up some nominal power leave it where it is.

I have the same dilemma right now. Definitely getting the MBRP. But going back and forth with the reg vs relocated. I think Im just gonna stay reg. Are they even shipping the relocated ones yet? They have black exhausts now too. Im just gonna stick to stainless though.

I've watched the MBRP videos and i REALLY wanted to get that system.. But like most, I'm on a budget and opted for a cheap and quick Flowmaster installation.. It's relatively small and is tucked up nice and tight in the stock location. Sounds great, saw a performance gain, and does not hinder departure angle at all! And for only $150 So if you're cheap like me, go see the guys at your local muffler shop and have 'em slap on a Flowmaster lol

The one that mounts is in stock location is pretty small...I'm not worried about hitting it on rocks.

I also think the smaller muffler in the stock location is probably fine, though I will have to look at their 2-door relocation system and decide when the time comes. FWIW, MRBP just prototyped a new skid plate for the relocated muffler (which is good), however if it can use a skip plate then the relocation may not neceassarily be that much of a benefit over the smaller MRBP muffler in the stock location.

Skid plate:
