Default Cat back system removed: just sharing...

So about 1000miles ago i had the mbrp cat back (non-relocation) installed. Noticed the volume difference, thought it was okay but a bit loud. Performance differences seemed minimal. So a few days in and the noise became super annoying at highway cruising so i dynamatted the rear cargo area of the jeep. This helped a little but overall, longer trips were unpleasant at best with my new exhaust.

Long story short, 1000 miles on it and i have removed the mbrp and returned to the factory exhaust set up. Volume is back to reasonable and the most unfortunate part is not that i spent the money and wound up not liking it, but that at back to factory and there seems to be no loss / change in performance.

Moral of the story, this is not the mod to start with for your daily driver.

Just thought id share cause this is some information i would have liked before i made the purchase.

I have never understood the theory behind a Cat Back system anyway.

The only real restrictions that could rob performance are the Cats (not changed in a cat back system) and the muffler, which you could change (as me and many do) with out doing the whole cat back system saving lots of $$$.

Making the pipe size bigger won't help, since the size coming out of the cats is the same as before, and larger pipes, like going to twin pipes can actually reduce back pressure to the point of reducing performance.

Cat back systems on newer vehicles have never made sense to me...

You will find another thread here somewhere with me complaining about the loud MBRP. I ended up having a glass pack resonator installed at the suggestion of several people, and now I'm very happy with it.
