Default Cats or no cats???

Thinking about changing my stock exhaust on my JK 2011. I am undecided between getting a CAT Back system with a good resonator or gutting the CAT and Muffler and just putting the straight out 2.5 in pipes. Any suggestions or advice?!?!

You'll be illegal for one. But also you'll need a way to retune the ecm or have a custom chip made to turn off emessions. Not worth it IMO. I'm not sure if there is a device to fool the ecm like there is for some sports cars. Coming from the Mustang world, you can put on something called MIL eliminators and run without cats. I just don't think it would be worth it on a Jeep. Today's cats flow pretty good. Not like 10-15 years ago.

I am linking one of the old discussion threads on the subject. There are several;

Apparently, with no cats, the o2 sensors that check for emmision levels going into and out of them will eventually throw a check engine light. There are various ways to "trick" the system I guess.

Never tried it, mine runs aftermarket hi-flow cats, for whatever they are worth.

Edit: TERun beat me to it......

Thanks for the reply. I knew they were illegal but had seen a few around without them. I think you are right though, sounds like it is not worth the hassle to take the cat out. Maybe I will just look for a good cat back system.
