Space was tight for me too. I got a Cobra 19 mini & a "cup holder mount". For the antenna, I used a 4' firestick (properly tuned) which worked well until I broke it going under a low tree branch. It was mounted to the spare tire carrier. I replaced it with a flexible Wilson, which also works well now that it has been tuned. You can buy the tuning tool, called a directional watt meter, or SWR meter, for about $50, or you can have a guy at a shop who knows what he is doing tune it for the same or maybe a little less. I don't leave the radio installed all the time. I just put it in when I'm heading for trails with a group that uses CB. The cup holder mount is easy in and easy out.
