Default Centerforce flywheel

Does anyone have experience with the Centerforce steel replacement flywheel ?? Little bit heavier and so is to be better at slow speed crawling ??

Anybody have one and is it worth $ 500 ?? This is in a 2007 JKU. thanks Doug

Not sure it's better. If you had a inline 4, then I think it would. The idea is that it helps smoothen out the engine between strokes. The v6 with the current fly wheel is good.

I really like my CF clutch and pressure plate. And even recently added a CF TOB. But I wouldn't replace a perfectly good OEM flywheel with a CF. If stocker is shot, sure. But otherwise, I have better places to spend the money.

It was a 3.8L. I had Centerforce develop the unit for testing in Jp’s ’07 JK Rubicon. Unfortunately, shortly after Centerforce delivered the prototype flywheel to me I got moved over to Four Wheeler and haven’t yet had a chance to drive the Jeep with the flywheel that I designed. Irony, huh?

Anyway, I asked Pete Trasborg (current editor of Jp) what his impressions are. He’s had a lot of seat time in that vehicle since the conversion. He reports it’s well-worth the investment. He says it makes a night and day difference in the low-speed off-road drivability.

Interesting, how is it helping when crawling?

Default Centerforce reply

Doug,

Here is a link to a Jeep that has the flywheel and Dual Friction clutch in it. They will be doing a review in a few months. I have not driven a 3.8l Jeep, but I have driven a 2012 Wrangler with the heavier flywheel on the street. The Jeep had 37” tires and 588 gears, there is a hill by the shop and with the stock clutch and flywheel the Jeep would stall when releasing the clutch without the gas. With the new clutch and flywheel at the same place I could release the clutch without the Jeep stalling. I did not take the jeep off road.

Have no experience with the CF flywheel...but the factory 50 pounder in my old CJ5 behind the Dauntless V6 would chug along with no gas with the best of them!
