Default Check engine light, possibly from k&n?

Pedigree info: 2012 JkUR 6300 miles, 3.5 AEV lift,35s, skids, bumpers, winch, procal.

So this week I installed a pioneer head unti and the next day I cleaned my motor with some engine degreaser and slow stream of water from wheeling past weekend. I then changed my air filter to k&n drop in. Then filled up my gas tank, all good, Wednesday go to work and come home everything was fine (20 miles round trip). Today I'm accelerating getting in the on ramp when all of a sudden no throttle response and my rpms were bouncing from 4000-5000, I coasted to the next off ramp and then regained my throttle. Pulled into a lot and tried to pull the code, I got it the first time but tuned the key one too many times so I only saw it for a second, it started with p05xxx. Don't know the rest.

I tried several times to get the code again but all I get is "-------" then "-done-".

Now the crappy part, I'm heading out tomorrow afternoon for a weekend wheeling trip I put together with 9 other guys. I really need this resolved in the few hours I have in the morning.

Please help

They have so many codes starting with P05 that all point to something different. It is pretty important to have the exact code. Is it possible for you to get to an AutoZone and have them plug in and read out the code? Is it possible for you to get a code reader and actually read it out? Do you have a Check Engine Light?

More information is needed but we can get you pointed in the right direction.

But would that explain the loss of throttle and my rpms bouncing??

I had something similar happen once on an on ramp very much like u describe. My jeep went into limp mode and I had to pull over and cycle the engine, everything returned to normal but the CEL remained. Couple days later when I was gonna drive to the dealership it went away. I checked stored codes with my scan-gauge and it pulled a P0108 (MAP sensor). It happened a few months and several thousand miles ago and hasn't returned. Different code but almost identical circumstance.

Its not the filter. You probably got something wet when cleaning the engine.

That makes me feel better, hopefully I will learn more when I get the proper code. Thanks

CEL went off as soon as I pulled in to get it diagnosed, of course, but went into the history and it was P0513 something with SKIM security key ignition module, my buddy says something might have been screwed with when the radio was installed. Any ideas?

The SKIM stands for "Sentry Key Immobilizer Module". Basically its a theft deterrent device put on by the factory. Installing an aftermarket head unit really shouldn't have any effect on the SKIM.

As for the MAP sensor (Mass Air) that is highly likely caused by the oil off a K&N clogging up the sensor. If you know how to remove it sometimes you can clean the excess oil off with a little brake cleaner but be careful its easy to wreck it too.
