Default co2 tank location

So I just ordered my regulator and hose from Ultimate Air and will need to find a place to secure a 10 or 15 pound tank in the back of my JKU. The thing that will make this a little more difficult is that I have a trek top and a tuffy security deck. This rules out, I think, mounting on the roll bar or using the MPAC mount.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of mounting it onto the top of the tuffy deck on it's side, understanding that I will need to more it to an upright position to use it.

Is your muffler still in the stock location? I relocated my muffler to free up space for an air tank and maybe a larger storage tub. It may not help if it has to be mounted vertical.

What about using the mount to secure it to the top of your deck as you suggest or under the rear seat since it's stored horizontally. I run a rack that could hold it but it won't clear a trektop (I just took mine off).

I'm not sure, but a 10lb tank might fit, standing up, on top of the security deck. You'd have to measure, of course. The 15lb tank, being that's it's considerable longer, will pose more problems.

One option(expensive) is the $150 angled bracket from Powertank:
www. powertank .com/products/sfID1/17/productID/220

If it will fit standing up, you could put your tank in a 10/15lb fire extinguisher bracket that's bolted to the security deck.
www. amazon .com/Fire-Extinguisher-Bracket-Heavy-Running/dp/B0036AXAYO/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1298727568&sr=8-15
(I think they can be found for cheaper elsewhere, but this is a good example. Ultimate air might even sell one.)

I'd stay away from mounting under the Jeep, as it would be a bitch to get to, and the road grime would probably ruin the hardare.

I didn't even think about putting it under the back seat. I still need to get a 10 or 15lbs tank and then I'll tackle the fitment. Hopefully there will be room on the side in front of the wheel well. If not, I like the idea of under the seat. I'll be sure to post pictures once I get it in and done.

thanks again for all the suggestions.

I have no clue as to how big you tank is, but I saw on this one guys Jeep, he installed his air tank and compressor inside the area where the stock jack and lug wrench was. Since he had a lift he removed the jack and did some modifications and it looked amazing. And also it gets covered up by the storage lid.

Yours might be a tad big but just a thought. Good luck.

I've got a 10# Powertank in my 2 door. I mounted the bracket right to the sheetmetal behind the rear seat, under where the right rear roll bar mounts to the tub. I don't have a sub, so it worked really well - I made the mount low enough that the black plastic 'cup' that the tank sits in rests on the floor, and gets strapped in - real solid.

Here's a shit pic from my Facebook:

I had a rough time finally deciding on a spot, but for me/the Powertank would have worked good on one of the wheel wheels (inside the cab, to either side of the rear seat). They're not flat - they slope down to the front, at least they do in a 2 door. But Powertanks have to be up at a (minimum) 30* angle from flat down OR GREATER...that way the vapors you need will be towards the top, enough for the regulator/valves to catch them and enable you to use your tank properly. The wheel wells would have worked for me, but it would have hindered people jumping into the back seat in warmer months, lol.

Good luck, and throw some pics up when you're done

Default Powertank 10lb

I have a two door and attached the 10lb Powertank to the roll bar with adapter. Not a great pic, but you get the idea.

Good luck with your choice.

Thanks, but I am afraid when the Trek top goes on for the summer that the roll bar will no longer be a mounting option.

I am facing the exact same problem now. I have the Tuffy rear enclosure and a 10 pound CO2 tank. I have been thinking of putting it behind the rear seat, at one of the wheel wells, angld at 30 degrees. Where did you end up mounting your tank?
