Coast 1310 Squeak
I've had a rear Coast 1310 DS on my JKU for about 20k, it started squeaking at the H block/centering ball. I called Coast and the guy said to use a needle grease fitting, but I didn't see the fitting on the DS? When I smear grease on the centering ball housing (the shiny part inside the h block) with my finger the squeak stops for about a week, then comes back. I do not see a needle grease fitting on the H block, do I need to disassemble the whole joint and grease, or just replace the joint? Thanks
First off, if you've never greased that part of it and you are at 20k miles, there is a chance it's shot. At least that is what Adams told me about mine. Needs to be greased every 5000 miles or so. Usually by the time it starts squeaking, it means you need to rebuild that joint.
I can't tell you exactly where to look but there should be an inverse zerk in there somewhere. I put my jeep into neutral on flat ground and had someone roll it back and forth (thus spinning the driveshaft) until I found the location and could get to it with a grease gun and needle tip.

Yup, there's a needle insert on it. I (and I think most) folks just drop the drive shaft to get to that insert. As the fellow that posted above me said, it's to be greased on a regular basis. I grease it with every oil change (around 5,000).
Thanks for the input, but the Coast has the maintenance free u-joints with no grease zerks. I pulled the DS at the transfer case and rotated it around looking for the needle tip fitting and couldn't see one. I will look again tonight. The only grease zerk on the entire DS is at the splines.
