No your thinking of the plastic boot actually on the joint.. This is a thin metal dust cover right on the back of the yoke between the axle and yoke and transfer case and yoke

Be sure and check the u-bolts they sent you for installation. The ones provided for my install were to short and you could not get a full nut on the threads. The nuts were also plated soft steel rather than the hardened steel. I ended up going to an auto parts and buying new u-bolts made by Precision U-joints. The new u-bolts fitted as they should be and also had the hardened steel nuts.

put your shaft end on the ground (on an old piece of carpet or something) and give it a push down. Youll see that that is for corrosion protection as that area slides in and out to match individual driveline dimensions. You'll then see the grease on the blue coat.

I have both a front and rear sitting in the boxes (unopened) in my garage. I'll be installing mine next week hopefully.
