The link is very helpful, but we're confused about where on the axle we can jack. Are there places on the axle that are off limits for the jack? Does my husband need to jack it up from the differential or somewhere else on the axle? We're noobs, so no bashing please!!

Since you would need to raise one side at at time, just place the jack on a solid piece of axle on the side that you are working.

I just helped someone yesterday swap coils, here is what to do.... Get it up on jack stands and remove the lower shock mount (at least on the side w/bad spring but might need to do both sides) disconnect the sway bar link and swing it out of the way. Place your jack on opposite side of axle as bad coil and jack it up slowly( I jacked it from lower axle C just watch the ball joint don't jack that) and watch your brake lines so you don't extend them too far. Once you have the axle jacked up on one end you should be able to spin the coil. If you can't and there is still slack in the brake lines jack it up a bit more. I couldn't tell by the pic if the coil is just off the mount of if it's wedged in there, if it's real tight you might need a prybar to get it to move. All in all it's pretty easy and shouldn't take long to do, and while your there double check the other side too

If you know someone with a pair of coil spring compressors it can be fixed in about 5 min. the spring just has to be turned to sit in the notch on the coil spring bracket. Or like everyone else says just jack up the passanger side from the frame letting the axel drop and turn the spring by hand until it is seated.
