They are all about the same, except some do oiled filters, some dry.

I like the idea of running a fairly enclosed intake, aFe, S&B and volant all offer nice intakes.

You will hear a TON of opinions on intakes. If you're a hard wheeler with water or deep mud, I would stick with a stock intake with a drop in filter or a snorkel. If you're a DD and don't see a lot of deep water, I say go for it. Not a lot of increase, but definitely more responsiveness of the go pedal.

I fully agree.

There is so much debate about CAIs and K&N filters (which I use) that I ran a simple test for my own enlightment over the past few weeks since I had access to an aFe CAI.

I removed my K&N drop in installed the factory air filter which had about 400 miles and I noticed an immediate drop in throttle responsiveness. I ran the stock filter for about 1.5 tanks of gas. I then installed the CAI and noticed an immediate increase in throttle responsiveness. I ran the CAI for 2 full tanks and replaced my K&N.

I did notice a slight drop in throtle responsiveness when I went back to K&N. However, my MPG did not vary more 0.5 - 0.8 MPG between all the filters which is in the noise level of variation for my engine.

I liked the the throttle responsiveness provided by the CAI the best, but the noise that it makes is not for me as as DD. I guess I could get a louder exhaust to drown out the intake.

Maybe it was just the filter that the CAI had. The aFe CAIs that I have seen all had a blue filter and the one I tested was yellow so maybe it was not the right filter.

Is there a sound difference using the AEV snorkle vs. stock?

banks ram air doesnt whistle and sounds great. Also does help the throttle a little if you have after market exhaust. Plus i got it for 200 bones. I love it glad i bought it. I rick crawl but i tip toe through mud lol.
