Cold air intake
I know that this has been talked about a milion times, sorry for that, but many of the question i have were not there. First off i live in kuwait so its dusty here alot, and it svery very hot. I want to install an intake that will increase my performance and sound. I heard that if its dusty i will have to clean and oil the filter like every 2 weeks to not get sand in my engine, is it true? and how are the dry intakes with dust? plus what make gives the jeep the growl? and what set up should i have that will enable me to install a snorkel later on, like in a year. thanks for any help.

I have the Airaid and it definitely has the "growl". In really dusty conditions, I personally would avoid any open element "CAI", if you're set on running one then seriously consider one of those pre-filters (outerwears). If you're defintely going to run a snorkle (a good idea in your terrain), I would just wait and go that route. I think the AEV snorkle uses the stock air box, but you do have to modify the hood or run the AEV hood. The Volant is the only other "CAI" setup that I am aware of the allows for the addition of a snorkle.

I was gonna suggest the Volant as well; I don't have any personal experience with it on a JK, but I've known lots of people that swear by Volant products on their cars. Volant stuff is kinda pricey, but always well-designed and of great quality. Plus, it's design is more closed (like the factory set-up) than most CAIs on the market, so it would probably hold up well under dusty conditions.
And will the volant give me a growl? and will allow me to install the river rider on it? And if i install lets say the airraid with a prefilter, will i be able to hook it up later to that a snorkel?
i seen somebody make a home made snorkel for there jk out of pvc pipe. they took it from under the fender (cut hole in fender to airbox) then also took it out of the flare and ran the hood line up to the windshield and up. for being what it was it didnt look half bad.
I wish i could stuff like that. I don't have place and tools, and the skills yet. Gota go with something on the market.
I don't know what the Volant sounds like, if you're definitely planning the snorkle anyways I wouldn't worry about the sound. As for the River Raider, it may be possible to fab it to work with the Volant, but if you were going to buy the Volant then I would just go with the Volant snorkle when the time came since it is designd to work with their "CAI".

Do an internet search on Volant and it should come up. I don't know what kind of filter element Volant uses, you might even be able to choose between oiled or dry. I can't say exactly what the snorkle will sound like, but I suspect the more closed nature would eliminate the growl. Maybe someone w/ a snorkle will chime in.

Thanks for the help, one more question, for dust which is better wet or dry? and what do you think i have to do to maintain the quality of it so it doesn't let in dust?
