I have only had this jeep for a few weeks and have not gone wheelin with it yet. I do plan on taking it to the Rockies and a few spots her in "Huskerland".

Your concern about water or mud may be valid. I thought of the same thing when I was installing it. The intake opening is lower than the OEM opening. See pics. I took one from the side so that you can see the the intake's opening and where it sits on the fender well. It is not as exposed as a Brute, K&N or other similar models.

I hope this helps!

Go to S & B website:

http://www.sbfilters.com/vehicles/ve...61&engine=2176

Click on show product details

Click on Installation instructions (PDF File)

Look on page 3

It clearly shows the opening in the intake. It would appear (I stress "appear" - because I do not have one) that it will be just as exposed to water as the XDI

Hope this helps!

The flat front on the filter itself - facing the 'hole' - where the air intake is ...is the shield for debris as air pushes its way in.
Installing a CAI is a definite plus. I have installed on several vehicles and have always appreciated an increase in performance and efficiency.
- Notwithstanding a snorkel where called for.
