Default Cool Tech Exhaust

Hello everyone! I guess its time for me to stop lurking, and start participating in this awesome forum! Our 07 Flame Red Unlimited Rubi finally has shipped after 5 months of waiting!!!!!!!

I'm looking to increase the pile of parts waiting for it in my garage with an exhaust. Has anyone installed the Cool Tech exhaust yet? It appears to just be a muffler w/ heatshield and a new short tail pipe. It looks like it would have good functionality and I really like the price. I'm curious how it performs compared to the more expensive systems. I'm also looking at Banks, Magnaflow, and Borla. I have used all three on diesel pickups and the banks did work the best.

Any help or opinions will be greatly appreciated!

I bought the CoolTech exhaust kit. It seemed to make a difference in the HP, but I haven't put it on a dyno yet (although I'm planning to in the future). I have a manual trans with 4.10s and thought the muffler was a bit annoying on the highway. Later I installed a Jet Chip Stage 1 and it changed the sound significantly. It's much more subtle now and doesn't get on my nerves. :-) Of course, that's just my opinion - I'm sure others here would listen to my exhaust and find it _too_ quiet. :-) It's all a matter of personal taste.

Interesting that you feel that the chip made a difference in the sound. I don't doubt you at all. I just think it's interesting.

I wonder if someone could actually check the db's with and without the Jet?!

I'm considering the same 2 mods, the cooltech exhaust first, ordered directly from them, then the Jet Chip. Who did you order it from, and I thought that with modified exhausts you were supposed to get Stage 2.

Do a search for Magnaflow exhaust. There is a guy on here with a Unlimited who just bought a magnaflow muffler and spliced it in himself. Then added a tailpipe And moved the stock heatshield over the muffler. Nice setup and very cost effective. The best I've seen yet IMO.

The Cooltech is actually a Magnaflow, but I'll do the search. In the meantime, if you find the link, post it here.

Thanks,

Question What about the droan?

I installed the Volant Intake and it is a pretty deep and throaty sound, and I have yet to do the exhaust. This noise only occurs under heavy acceleration and makes the engine sound great. I have been holding off on the exhaust because my last rig had this droan (constant humm) even under no throttle at highway speeds. It was enough to drive me crazy. I guess I am getting older and less tolerant?

Can any of you that have installed an aftermarket exhaust comment on the noise at highway speeds under little to no throttle?

Funny you should ask that. I just put my CoolTech on this afternoon. One word of advice, get a friend to help. It was taking me way too long by myself, an old Jeeper neighbor of mine came by to brag about his '53 CJ? (sorry I was too busy figuring out how to disconnect that damn rear right side muffler hanger to listen closely...) and ended up crawling under the JK to help out. Bottom line -done in minutes. We then had to take it out for a sound check. I'll use my neighbor Mike's words, "Sounds just like my old Jeep!" On acceleration you hear it and it's a beautiful thing. once the RPM's are established and leveled, it's not there anymore. Sounds the same at thirty as it does at sixty. The only time you'll hear it is if you live in a hilly area. It sounds so great, I may end up selling my radio! Those folks at Cool Tech did a great job on this mod!

This is exactly what I did, pretty much the same as the Cooltech kit for $100(price of the muffler).
