Cooling engine compartment
I have a project going now, where I need more cooling on a highly modded pickup. I decided on hood vents for that project. I found some on a mid 90's Z34. I think the car was a lumina.the cool thing, is there were factory trays under the vents that a small hose connected to, to drain away any water that came in thru the vents. The z-34 vents are flat and easily mountable..
If you go this route use a 1/4 cut off wheel (3" size) on an air cutter. Take your time and cut a little, let cool, and repeat. Heat will warp a hood quickly. I found the cut off wheel worked better than a plasma...
These pictures will give you some idea...

You can feel the heat pouring out of them while stopped.

The superchips flashpaq lets you change the temperature at which the engine fan comes on. I believe you can set it to full-time on as well. It's also got a towing mode that will help your shift points.
I plan on installing hood louvers one day, but I haven't decided yet how I will install them. I'm thinking I might have a body shop do it.

there is a thread on here somewhere about a guy who put a fan in/on his hood. and i believe he ran it thru a switch in the cab. i'll see if i can find it.

there was a thread in i think the modified jk section where some guy put an electric fan directly under a hole he cut in a non structural part of the hood. it wasnt the prettiest thing in the world, but he did mention that it threw a check engine light and he found a code for the engine not heating up fast enough.
this was the first thing that I thought of when I read your post. Is there such a thing as a hood with a low-profile scoop as well as the louvres?
