Default Cooltech and AEM

I installed the Cooltech exhaust kit and AEM intake this morning. Highly recommended. The sound is fantastic! Nothing raspy or rice burner sounding. Its inaudible at idle, and when you get on it, it has a nice low grumble that makes me smile.

The Cooltech kit comes with instructions to cut the mid pipe and use band clamps to hold it all together. I was a little concerned about the clamps so I decided not to use them and welded it all up instead.

The AEM install was a cinch, and the intake noise is pleasant

Now, if my Black Diamond 3" lift would ever get here I could go have some real fun!!!!!

The Cool tech mounts the muffler mid body, right. I was looking at that set up as a possible option. How is clearance and craftsmanship of the product?

You're right. The muffler is under the body between the frame rails, and is about as good a position as I could think of for ground clearance.

The product is basically just the muffler and a 1 1/2 foot long bent tailpipe and some band clamps. It installs cleanly as the instructions go, but I would personally weld it up instead of using the band clamps. Remember, you'll have to cut your mid-pipe and reuse most of it for the install. This is a little more involved than just a bolt up cat-back exhaust. I think its worth the trouble...

I went with the Magnaflow system that was just released, 460.00 part number 16751.

I know everyone says "dont use flowmaster", I did any way and love the sound. I used a three chamber in place of the stocker. Also added the Airaid, hate the whistle but like the sound it makes when I gas it. I drag raced a stock jeep the same as mine. I barely pulled away from him, but I got 1 mile a gallon better fuel mileage on a 45 minute drive. Not great, but not bad. Me and buddy will do more test in the future.

I began to install everything last night, but I was not able to tighten the clamps around the mid-pipe. The size of the new muffler is greater than the mid-pipe and did not allow the clamp to cinch down enough. I'm going to take it today to get everything welded.

I was contacted by Cooltech today, nice customer service, they seem to have a fix for this problem. See below:

I became aware of an issue with the tailpipe clamp and I consulted with the manufacturer (Accuseal) of the clamps. As a result, newer shipments of the Cool Tech kit have (3) 1" slits in them. This will effectively address the tailpipe issue.

For the muffler, on the vehicles we did, the pipe fit was very snug into the muffler and the clamps were very effective. However, it sound like in your case the ID of the muffler pipe must have been a little larger - rendering the clamps ineffective?

If this is the case, then I will likely slit the muffler to (3) 1" slits to give the clamp something to work with.

Welding is ultimately a superior solution, but if you do not want to go that route, I can exchange your muffler quicky with a "slitted" one that will also solve your problem.

I apologize for your experience.

Got everything welded together last night and it sounds great. It is what I was looking for; not too loud, but you can still hear it.
