Default Cost to Have Custom Bumper Welded

Hey all. So I have dreamed of one day designing my own front and rear bumpers on CAD, sending the CAD designs to a plasma cutter, and then having the plasma cut metal welded (based on the CAD designs) into the bumpers by a local welder. Now this is probably a few years down the road for me but I was wondering if anyone could give me a general idea of what a local welder would charge to weld up a rear full width bumper + tire carrier? How about for a front mid width bumper with shackle tabs? I am talking about just the cost of welding (not material cost or plasma cutting cost).

I know this is a somewhat specific question but I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has any ideas as I've never dealt with welders before. I also know that welder rates are going to vary by location, training, etc but, again, I am just looking for a general idea on cost to weld.

Thanks

For something like that it would be hourly plus materials.

How complex are we talking?

There's going to be more to it than just making a design. Structurally to get a good strong design you will have to understand things. And then there will be some trial and error.

Unless you can do it yourself, I'd recommend buying one. Or finding someone who has done jeep bumpers before and understands what you want, then work with them

Interested you said this, I have a few ideas to make a few modifications to my Mopar front Bumper. Just yesterday I received an Eastwood Catalog in the Mail, they offer a Plasma Cutter for materials up to 3/8" for only $640. I have no idea if thats a good deal or not but I have a feeling I'll be doing a few Mods myself. And no I'm not going in the Plasma Cutting business, I can only work with one arm.

Welders usually price jobs on inches of weld, at least pipe welders do anyway. So my guess is it could be somewhere around $200- $300. That will be a mighty expensive bumper when its done. Good luck though, post some pics.

I talked to a welder about fixing my trailer, he charges $50 an hour. You pay for the first hour and then charged for each quarter hour after that.
