Could a bad steering box cause shimmy/wobble?
Ive been chasing my tail. Just upgraded to:
Synergy DL (flipped)
Synergy tie rod
Artec Track bar bracket (raised)
Synergy ball joints
Also running a MC adjustable track bar (welded some washers on frame side bracket)
Did all this about 1500-2000 miles ago. Just hit a pot hole today and felt the onset of death wobble coming and had to slam on my brakes to stop it.
The only thing I Can feel and see is my steering gear shaft (at pitman) has lateral movement when moving the steering wheel side to side. I measured roughly .050-.060" from my rough assessment using some calipers. I've always felt a ton of movement in the steering wheel when going over bumps. Could this be the cause? Any other ideas??

I've been fighting it some too did a few of the things like you, alignment, track bar, shop checked it all out, did a basic tire rotation and determined I had either bent wheel or tire separating on inside, as long as wheel is on back no wobble. If that helps.
A bad steering box will definitely cause wonky handling, but I can't really see it being the cause of a wobble with .05" of play. I remember when I swapped my steering box, there was a tag attached informing you that they use roller bearings and a bit of play is normal. This was almost 2 years ago so I really cant remember any details about it.
The only other thing I can think of would be going with properly sized grade 8 bolts. I chased wobble for a good long time and it ended up being the TB bolts thats were killing me.

I also thought about putting my stock trackbar back to see if that changes anything (now that I flipped the DL). I was thinking maybe the MC might be softer because it moves more than I remember the stock one when steering back and forth.
I'll give the bolt kit a try - thanks!!!
I have the same issue with my JKS. The bushing allows for a good deal more movement than stock, so under the right conditions I can experience a minor wobble. I may try throwing the stock bar back on as well when it cools off a bit.
I never had a wobble, but I definitely had loose steering with my 37s. I don't want say this works for everyone, but I added a steering shaft brace and it was a significant improvement.
I wheel a lot and mostly in rocks, and I found that I could burn up stock drag link ends in no time. Worth considering an upgrade to real 1 ton ends.
Another item often over looked are the front hubs. I think I had one that lasted 10k miles and another that went 12k miles. That will start a nice wobble for you.

Anyone else making a good brace? I assume RSP is still out of business ?
I've though about buying the syngergy brace only (not trackbar reinforcement bracket) and welding it on. Not sure if that's a good idea or not.
What's the test for hubs? Just like a regular wheel bearing I assume? Jack it up, rock top and bottom? Anyone else making a good brace? I assume RSP is still out of business ? Yeah, RSP is long gone. I still have the latest version and have thought about producing something similar. Have to get my Jeep done first though, haha.
