Could it be a computer problem?
Hello, I was recently driving back to my college in my 08 jeep wrangler jk with 103800 miles on it. All was going well until when I cancelled my cruise control suddenly on accident. This caused both the speedo and tach to immediately drop to zero and I fully lost power to not only the throttle, but also the steering. I then turned on my flashers, went to the side of the road, regathered the shit that had dropped into my pants, put it back into park and restarted her up. It jumped right back up without missing a beat and carried me the rest of the 50 miles back to school. I'm looking to see if anyone knows what may have caused this? I'm thinking it was electrical as opposed to mechanical since it was able to start right back up and there was no sign of anything wrong prior to the event (overheating, engine light, etc.). Chime in with any thoughts, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks
Had this happen a few years ago. Problem never returned. Pretty sure it's CANBUS related.
I once had a 1981 Dodge full-size short wheelbase van that would do this every few months and it didn't have CANBUS but they were known to have flakey computers.

Thanks for your responses guys. I very well could have bumped the key, as I was fooling around in that area anyway. I had never heard that this was a problem on jks until now.
Also, what is CANBUS?
