Default Cracked exhaust/Headers questions???

I heard a ticking about a month ago on my 38,500 mile Sahara, I took driver side heat shied and this is what i found!

Any of you have experience with JBA headers?
Are the Banks Headers worth the money?
How about Gibson, any good?

I been reading about the heat problem with aftermarket headers, will the tape rap work to help this? I know some of you modified the heat shield also.

Thats almost exactly where mine cracked, but it had 2 more cracks along side it, I'll have to take some pics later. The passenger side manifold was fine. The driver side cracking seems to be fairly common. There was a long thread about cracking manifolds and I think everyones was on the driverside.

I have a set of Gibson Ceramic coated headers. I like them so far and havent had any heat issues. But if I didnt get a deal on ebay for 350 shipped, I doubt I wouldve spent 700 or 800 on them. I wouldve just replaced with a new stock manifold.

I did go play on some small puddles and got water all over my engine.....:thinking :
Now I'm wondering because I think this happened right after that!

I didnt though. Ive been through some water, but I go slow and I havent been through anything to get that high on the manifold. As 0311sgt said, water can cause it, however alot of people have had the driverside crack. Im willing to bet most were in the same location too. IMO this is a casting issue.

Coating headers is the best way to alleviate heat issues should that be the route traveled. I wouldn't buy them coated, but use your local powder coat shop for a heat barrier coating.

I had to do a double take on the mention of $7-800, but apparently that's what they're going for. I paid a bit over $500 for my banks headers, and while I'm sure the design is good they did cause me some lean issues with the PCM. Those have seemingly gone by the wayside with the use of a Superchips Flashpaq and prior to that, boosting my octane at the pump.

I think Chrysler is aware of this. I took mine into the dealer for something totally unrelated (top leaking I think) with only 5,000 miles on my jeep. When I got it back they had replaced the exhaust manifold because it was cracked.

I never heard it. There was no way a tech just happened to notice it while working on something totally unrelated and decided to fix it to be a nice guy. My guess is that it's a "silent recall".
