Crush Cans
I received my ARB Bumper in the mail today and noticed that the instructions say to cut out the crush cans and insert them into the bumper.... I know there are no sensors in them but I just wonder am I really safer with them or are they just an unnecessary complication added to satisfy lawyers?
By the way WOW is this thing HUGE!! I had to remove the parts from the mamoth box and it still barely fit into the unlimited with the back seat folded down and the passenger seat moved all the way foreward. I guess I am not taking any passengers unitl I mount this!!

The Crush Cans are designed to absorb samll impacts on the Factory Bumper, and not transmit the force to the frame. With a big aftermarket bumper, the force should be distributed across the bumper, and into the frame, minimizing damage to the frame. Either way, with a big enough hit, or one that doesn't hit the cans, it'll do frame damage. In my case, when I put on my aftermarket bumper, I pitched them in the trash!
they cant be all that necessary if most other aftermarket bumpers dont need them.
i have the Rugged Ridge modular front, and there is NO room for those things.
im pretty sure i still have them
i have a pile of stuff that has been removed from the JK sitting in the corner of the garage

I have installed 2 AEV bumpers and the instruction say to cut them out and install them with the AEV.
So you ruin the factory bumper to install something that is useless anyway, and spend several hours in doing so.
No thanks...i left them out. To me it's a waste of time, energy and the destruction of a perfectly good factory bumper that may come in handy someday.

they are there just to absorb some impact in low speed hit (IE: you bump into someone at a stop light). They will absorb that low amount of impact so that there is less chance of activating the airbags.
Most aftermarket bumpers don't use them at all. So there is no real reason to do so if you don't really feel like doing it.
