Custom Axles....OR Buy a Rubicon
Hi All,
I currently have a 2012 Jeep Unlimited Sahara 6-speed with 4,000 miles, leather heated seat and hardtop and I have come to the decision to start modifying it (long arm lift & 37s) and would like a little input. Keep in mind this will be my DD.
A few days ago I was called by my dealer and he asked if I want to trade my jeep in and pay an additional $6-7k for 2013 Rubicon unlimited with leather 6-speed and hardtop.
My question is, is it worth it to pony up the extra cash for a 2013 Rubi and upgrade some axle components or look for a custom axle builder and take the $6-7K i would spend on the rubi and start shopping for some custom axles (i know i would have to pony up more $$$ to get front and rear axles).
If you think i should start looking for a custom axle builder, can you suggest some good shops in the North Western US as i currently live in Alberta Canada.
Here are a few well known builders that i have come across already, if you have anymore to add it would be much appreciated:
RockSolid Performance - Custom fabrication & axle assemblies for Off-Road and Street/Strip (Central US)
Drivetrain Specialists East Coast Gear Supply (East Coast US)
Cheers
,
Sherlock

I bought my 08 sport so that I could build it when the time came. I think the rubicon is one of the best out of the box from The factory 4x4's of today. With that said you could very easily build a stronger jeep with the platform you have. You have a slew of options. Is your current jeep an auto?

It all depends on how far you want to take it... if you plan on going extremely far you will outgrow the rubi lockers and axles as well.
I play around on this webpage a lot dreaming about my front axle breaking:
TeraFlex JK Non Rubicon 07-12, Front Factory Replacement housing 0 in. to 3 in. Lift
If I were you I would just get the 37's and wait for your OEM front axle to warp and have enough money put to the side for a better front axle
