Default Custom Bumpers

Anyone have a custom bumper (rear or front)? I know a guy that has offered to make me one that will have an original design. of course, it will be made of quality materials (this isn't his first time making a bumper).

Just trying to figure out if there are any drawbacks to a custom bumper? I was quoted $350-$450 for a custom one with a Stinger loop, D-Rings, Winch plate and cut outs for the stock fog lights.

That sounds very reasonable. Since you can by bumpers that are over 1000 dollars.

Yeah... that's the part that I like the most... the price! Also, I can make it look like its MINE and not like everyone else's. I wanted to make it look like a football helmet facemask, but that would make it even heavier.

What drawbacks/regrets could there be? you would be getting a bumper that is to your specifications and exactly how you want it done. It is kind of the best of both worlds really. Good price to get exactly what you want.

Oh, there could definitely be drawbacks. Like if I made it you might try to recover your stuck jeep and pull the bumper off the frame, lol! I don't know how to weld worth a crap and I have never made a bumper.

There is something to be said for buying something that is tried and tested, rather than made as a one off and being someone's guinea pig for a new design. Personally, I would have reservations about having someone make me a bumper. I would like to see some of their product tested and abused first.

I trust him... He is a very good fab guy. He has made a lot of bumpers for XJ's and TJ's.
Here is a link to an XJ forum that shows his bumpers.
