Default D60 width means i dont need 4.5" backspacing?

hi im looking at new d60 axles but they will be 68.5" wide compared to the stock 65.5" which gives me an extra 1.5" each side. im not wanting to have the tyres sticking out too much (with bushwacker flares). so do i still need 4.5" backspacing for wheels or can i use 4.5"+1.5"= 6" backspacing? im so confused?

it makes a lot of sense, I would think you're right in what you're saying, but don't know for sure

The backspacing is not only to clear your fender flares, but also to further separate the inside edge of the wider tires from your suspension and steering components. Where are the coils on the D60 compared to the stock D44? Sway bar links? Steering knuckles? etc.

I'm not sure, this is just conjecture, but it makes sense to me.

I've never worked on a D60, but I have to think that the steering components wouldn't be too far removed from where they are on a stock D44. The C's, although beefier on a D60, should still have the steering knuckles connecting to the drag link at about the same distance from the rotors and mounting plates. I would think that 4.5-4.75 BS would still be desireable.

Try PM'ing Camp Crocker and COP4x4 (you may have heard of Orange Crush!) - he's done some D60s and should know the answer to your question.

Good luck.

I have gone with Solid 60 with 4.5" backspacing. No issues at all.

With Curries standard JK 60 front end the issue will be that the steering arm will hit the wheel, you maybe able to get 5" backspacing (not 100% sure). If you run 20's you can run 6" backspacing. The other option is to run Curries aluminum outter knuckles with custom steering and you will clear 17's with 6" backspacing!!! The beauty of running that much backspacing is that it will steer like a dream since the the scrub radius is almost gone.

Shhhh. You can get shot on this forum for saying things like that!

Those outer knuckles are sweet! Do you (Currie) make custom drag links and tie rods? Or would they have to be custom fabbed?
