If you sont have both tires turning at the same speed than youare reducing your crawling ability. The whole reasoning behind useing lockers is so both tires always turn at the same speed so if one comes off the ground than you don't loose speed or grip.
If the Aussie alows the tires to turn at differnt speeds than you looe the ability to crawl.

and if the Aussie was as good as an actual locker than why would anyone buy a real locker?
Re-Read the post...THE LSD allows slip,,,the AUSSIE doesn't.

The LSD allows slip, it limits it, until break away torque is reached.

The AUssie never slips, its always turning the tires, both of them...it just makes one go faster if needed, but, it does NOT slow down the other one.

IE: It gives the guy in the outside lane a speed boost, but keeps the guy in the slow lane chugging along at the same speed.

SO - If one tire is in the air...the OTHER tire on the ground is still turning, and propelling the jeep.

As to why anyone would buy a "real" locker...hmmm...they do buy real lockers, like the Aussie, the Detroits, Eatons, etc.

They are all real lockers. Even EZ Lockers, and Soft Lockers, etc.

Posi's, LSD's, etc...are not lockers. (they have break a way torque's, etc...)

As for crawling with the locker...you crawl at the speed of the tire pushing you...quite simple.

You might not know this, but all of the autolockers do this, they ALL allow a bit of extra speed to the outisde, and keep the inside tire turning a bit slower...to make turns less messy, etc.

A welded diff (Lincoln Locker), or a spool on the other hand, nope, no breaks there...same tire speed, no matter what.

Remember though - the tire's turning at the same speed is NOT the important thing...WHO CARES what the tire with NO traction is doing.

The IMPORTANT THING is that any tire having traction can propel the jeep, even if its buddy across the axle is hanging in mid-air, doing the Lam Bada, or whatever.

all automatic lockers operate in basically the same way. The major difference is that a detroit for example is a full case locker (replaces the carrier) where a lunch box locker (aussie, detroit easy, poser trax) only replace the spider gears and use the stock carrier. The down side of a lunch box type locker is the strength. Full carrier lockers tend to be almost bullet proof where the lunch box is not.

Ok... let us stop trying to put a square peg into a round whole. Think of a 10 speed bike. the rear wheel can always turn faster then your pedaling, but will never go slower. If the wheel is in fact turning faster, its because there is a force acting on it (other then your pedaling)... i.e. the road. So if one wheel is in the air, it will turn as fast as your engine is pushing it (pedaling) since there are no other forces acting on it. It's a great design.

P.S. While an auto locker works the same in principle, the design is not the same as a sprocket on a bike.
