at this point of owning your JK and depending on how much off-roading (actually what type) you do...its pointless.

rockcrawling, tough angles. Anything thats a hard knock on your Jeep or puts a lot of strain on the drivetrain. The 44 is a good strong axle but in all truth if your not hard core offroading the stock dana 30 front is fine. Had them in all my CJ's and they held up pretty well. Now the Dana 35 stock rear....thats a whole nother story...they suck. lol.

depends on what is already in the rear...check your paperwork for your JK it will tell you what you got. Also if you have the tow package or the traclock rear differential limited slip thing you have the D44 for sure.

Changing out the rear wouldn't be too bad. Best thing to do would be to wait a few years and pull one out of a wrecked one at a Junk Yard. Or in other words, don't replace it till you break it.

Or you can go the aftermarket route. Money varies on the rear end swap. I've known people to do it for damn near nothing to several thousand dollars. Me personally I am a junkyard hunter for upgrade parts like that.

i agree, i'd just wheel the hell out of your d35 until you break it. i had 33's on my TJ with the d35, and i never had a problem with it. granted, it was an open diff, i was easy on the idiot peddle, and there is no way i'd put on anything bigger than the 33's...
also, DCX beefed up the 35 a little. i still wouldn't lock it or put 35's on there and wheel it, but it should hold up until you have enough change on your floor to swap it out down the road.
but if you are still wondering if you have the d44, check the window sticker for HD rear axle, or just climb under and look at it. the d35 is an oval diff cover with a rubber fill plug, the d44 has small angles, and a metal fill plug.
i also suggest emailing DCX for a build sheet, it'll give you paint codes and all kinds of crap that will be useful down the road.

Do a Dana 30 High Pinion with High Steer.

More clearance and less crap on the bottom to worry about.
