Default Death wobble

To start I have a 2008 Rubicon 2 door 40,000mi. I put a Teraflex 2.5 coil lift on this weekend. Driving it with stock tires hit a pothohe and wow crazy violent shaking had to stop completely. Put on new tires and same thing, hit a pothole at any speed even 10-15 mph. Checked everything... loosened and re-tightened sitting on its wheels. Everything looks good except a very little play with the wheels about 2" off ground and using a pry bar to check for any play. Help! Oh and on a smooth road rides great no shimmy perfect at any speed!

more than likely, you have ball joints that are going bad. not uncommon for the amount of miles you have and if you can actually see play in your wheel when using a pry bar, it's way too much. ball joint wear is normally measured with a dial indicator which measures in the thousandths of an inch.

when you pull them off, i can almost guarantee that you'll be surprised at how shot they are. if everything else checks out, there will be no crossing your fingers here - this will be your problem.

All new ball joints... Seemed to fix it. Had it up to 80 on the interstate smooth. This morning going about 20 hit a good size pothole and bam death wobble! Had to bring it to a complete stop. I'm at a loss? Would a high steer kit help anything? I do feel a lot of bump steer.

Are you running adjustable lower control arms? You've checked bushings, track bar is tight, replaced the ball joints, maybe the caster angle? The TF 2.5" is more like a 3" on a 2dr w/softop so I'm wondering if the lift has drawn the axle caster off enough to cause it. Your problem is strange...caster issues will cause bump steer, but not that violently typically. Have you had someone sit in the jeep and turn the wheel back and forth while you look underneath to make sure something isn't loose? My front track bar was loose but you couldn't tell unless you watched it with someone yanking back and forth on the steering wheel.

High steer kits are nice, but not really necessary on a 2.5" lift.

Best of luck.
