Default Death wobble???!

So I took off my steering stabilizer last night to clean it up and what not... (it's rusting) anyways.. Driving to work today and hit a speed bump at like 15mph and extreme shimmy... I had to stop then it drive normal until the next bump.. So and and so forth.. Common sense put the stabilizer back on... Does it really work that good to stop dw??

The steering stabilizer does NOT cure death wobble.. it just hides it.check your track bar, and the go read planmans death wobble thread in the write ups.. hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will speak up.
Edit: here is his thread. www.jk-forum.com/showthread.php?t=132779

what he said. if your suspension componets are in good contition, track bar bolts tightend to torque spec and your ball joints are good, you can safely drive without a steering stabilizer and without fear of having DW.

if your going to go at it, go to the hardware store get 2 9/16ths x 3 inch grade 8 fine thread bolts with some lock washers and fine thread nuts and replace the stock 14mm bolts on the trackbar, better to just do it now and get it out of the way so there is no further risk of wallowing out the stock mounting holes for the trackbar, this way there is no risk of play in your trackbar in the future.

I have been reading lot of info on this subject and talked with two highly respected Jeep aftermarked shops and one national company all think this is far fetched I have seen the video and I see the point that this person is trying to make what do you guys think ... is it necessary

There is definitely an underlying cause for your death wobble, as stated a stabilizer will only hide your death wobble untill the stabilizer wears out. Things like bad bushings, incorrect caster and even things as small as loose hardware can all be suspect in DW! The link posted above is full of good info.

far fetched? not at all. I had death wobble and replaced my track bar and did the larger bolts an the same time and feel it was very warranted and now have no more issues at all, the issue is that even though it is very little play, over time you can and will wallow out your bolt holes on the mounts, this will cause the bushing to blow out on the trackbar, or worse, you will eventually crack the mount on the axle for the trackbar, then you are really up shi*t creek. at $4 in parts for the bolts, it is just beyond worth it for the peace of mind. There is no play in the bolt holes with the 9/16ths bolts and is just more solid. There was another post recently titled something like " the importance of changing out the trackbar bolts" or something along those lines, in it there were pictures showing that the smaller size bolts had enough movement to cause sever scaring of the bushing and bolt holes. Think about it like sex do you want a nice tight fit? or a loose fit haha

Forthe longest time, I fought the death wobble problem by doing all of the things described in this thread and then some, but finally cured the problem by installing the HD Frame Brace and Drag Link Flip Kit from Teraflex. At $436.99 plus installation, it is well worth it. I had the work done at Desert Rat in Phoenix AZ, and they all but guarenteed that it will cure the problem....and they were right. It has been over one year without even a hint of DW. I wheel my jeep hard and have a worn steering stabalizer and 37" chewed up tires that are in need of balance....still no DW. I highly recommend installing this kit...well worth it.

Default Still have the wobble

So instead of starting a new thread, I figured I would just reply to this one already started.

I have a '10 Unlimited Sport with 40K miles. A month ago a I installed the AEV 3.5" premium kit. 2 days after, I got death wobble on the freeway going 77mph. Had to completely stop to stop the DW. After changing out the bolts on the stock trackbar as was suggested, it seemed to help. About 3 weeks later, on my way home from a Glamis trip, I got the DW again at 80mph, again needing to stop completely to stop the insane wiggle and vibrations. I just installed the JKS heavy duty trackbar with new 9/16" bolts. I was on the freeway yesterday and felt the wobble start with slight wiggling after hitting an expansion joint at an overpass, then stop on its own. What else is causing this wobble?

My ball joints are a big suspision. How hard is it to replace them with basic garage tools and a rental ball joint remover? Thanks.
