Default Death Wobble

Yep,

Another death wobble thread.

So ever since I installed my RK 2.5 Max Travel, I've been getting wobbles at 60-70 mph...

A few weeks ago I replaced: ball joints, drag link, tie rod at pitman arm. 9/16 bolts on front track bar. I took my track bar off and tighten the shit out of the jam nuts, threw it back on and torqued to 125ft lbs... yes with wheels on the ground. Greased all fittings.

I still got DEATH WOBBLE.

Scratching my head now... I take it in for an alignment. Alignment was good -5.6 caster, everything else in spec. Wasted $89 on alignment so why not take it in for a wheel balancing too... All four tires were out of balance, the front passenger was off by an ounce.

Back to test driving... even though I am terrified of death wobble by now. It's 50% better, when it did wobble it wasn't as bad as it used to be but it's still there. It's probably just the steering stabilizer covering it up. The alignment shops says there's a little play in my steering box and it will get worst if I don't have a steering stabilizer, not sure if he's right but I installed the new one I got. I was waiting to make sure the wobbles go away so I don't just mask the problem.

What am I missing? The track bar axle mount still has a bit of play even with 9/16 but I wasn't sure if it would be a problem.

Appreciate any advice/inputs, I feel like a dog chasing his tail here.

Thank you, and Happy Valentines Day!

Oh and I also installed a Rancho Steering Stabilizer, the OEM one bent on an episode of death wobble. Also, steering box some sort of play/clunk I am feeling in the wheel and pedals...

I am leaning towards the steering box, when the wheel is turned left and right you can hear a clunk... not much movement though...

Look into a grade 8 hardware kit from northridge4x4. Chrysler screwed up yet again with the lower control arm bolts and track bar.

Track bar for the most part is always the culprit for a death wobble. Do this simple thing, have a friend turn the wheel back and forth fast and while he is doing that check your mounting bolts for your track bar (the frame and the axle). There should be no play at all. If have to upgrade bolts please do get the best grade ( grade 8) as previously stated.

Steering stabilizer is NEVER the answer!!! When properly setup you should be able to drive with no wobble and no stabilizer. I don't even run one.

Find planmans death wobble thread and got thru everything. Sounds like you got a good start.
If the steering box is wore out and has play that would defiantly cause it.

I got nr4x4 hardware kit. I had to ream out the track bar to 9/16. Just got an alignment done and don't really want to mess with control arms but I guess I'm going to have to. Ive gone through planmans tutorial a few times already there is no play I'm the steering linkage... everything that had play was replaced. Track bar is solid was well. The steering box is making a clunk and I can feel small vibrations from it when it clunks but there is no play on the pitman arm... I think the play is inside the box... steering box may be the next move... I only have 38k on an 09 should I replace the pump and hoses while I'm in there? Thanks again.

Not for nothing's but I'm wondering if its your wheels. I have the RR ones that are hub centric and do 80 everyday with no issues. I know there other factors but it always seems to happen lifts are put on and wheels are changed. What exactly is your current setup?

Rk2.5 max travel kit
Bilstein 5100 shocks
Spidertrax spacers
Rancho steering stabilizer
Stock 17" wheels/tires

I'm about to just have a shop figure it out. Really didn't want them to check the same crap I've already did but this needs to be resolved or the jeeps got to go. I've had this wobbles for months now and it just sits in the garage. Anyone know if small play in steering box can be the culprit? Already spent hundreds on parts... have to do extra homework before I spend more.

Do you have after market control arms? I know not having at least the front lowers on a 2.5 or higher lift will cause a lot of issues.

Look up Planman's Death Wobble thread. It works. He also has a couple you tube vids on how to diagnose and fix. Tried and proven methods.
