Default Death Wobble Fix

I installed a pro comp 2.5" lift on my 2009 Rubicon "Heep" back in 2010. No body told me I needed to install track bars to center the axels under the Heep once again. I thought everything I needed was in the kit. Soon after the death wobble began happening. I was told by so called experts and mechanics that it was the ball joints. Then steering components and dampeners. Then wheel balancing and toe in then toe out adjustments Nope! After 5 years of BS, spending money and the run around from know it alls that don't not "crap".
SOLUTION: Installed adjustable control arms to increase front axel angle from 4.5 degrees to 5.5. No more death wobble.
Some crooks wanted to sell me completely new lift kits saying mine was cheap and crappy. Perhaps, but all I really needed was the control arms for under two hundred bucks!

And this is why I will say it's always best to read, research, and figure this stuff out rather than trying to take it to someone to fix. Building a jeep can be a pretty steep learning curve, but what you gain in the process is valuable knowledge. It's also why I would never trust a dealer's advice, and even a reputable shop can be hit and miss. I personally believe that the forums provide invaluable information, namely because you're interacting with people that have been through the same thing. Sorry to hear you've had such a frustrating experience.

Hmm, so changing the caster from 4.5° to 5.5° somehow mysteriously 'fixed' full blown deathwobble? Why am I having a difficult time believing that?

Could it be that the bushings on the stock arms were bad? Or that the bolts simply were not torqued? These seem to make a whole lot more sense as a 'fix' than a small amount of added caster on a 2.5" lift.

Up in JK Writeups, there is an Index stuck to the top. Look in either the Steering or Troubleshooting sections, and find the DIY Alignment writeup. This method uses a cheap angle finder, which is not the most accurate measurement, but its easy and should get you in the ballpark.

Another way is to call around and find an alignment shop that does free checks. Some will throw it on the rack and print out the 'before' specs without you having to pay for the full alignment.
