Death wobble on new shock
I expirenced the death wobble yesterday after driving 45 over a pretty crappy paved road. Violent shaking in the front end, steering wheel went mad and I just replaced my Steering stabilizer with a rancho. Never expirienced it with my stock part but scared to drive now.. What do I do?
Mopar products are notorious for the wobble. I have had it twice and new track bar bushings and torque to speck plus twenty or so pounds has fixed it both times. I have not had it on jeep but both on dodge ctd 3/4 trucks. Make sure bolts on track bar have not been damaged and holes in mount have not been wobbled out. Mopar has uped torque spec on some vehicles because they know it happens. Should be able to fix it for under 50 bucks. The first time I had it I spent 1200 bucks and still had it, replaced track bar bushing and fixed. Also just make sure you haven't thrown a weight on wheel. You would be shocked what that will do on a set of large tires.
Best way to tell is have someone slowly move steering wheel back and forth slowly while you are under front end. If track bar moves at all in either mount replace bushings. Use a hard poly, they work the best and don't harden up and get brittle.
