Decision time...opinion needed
OK, let me first ask that I not get slammed too much for this. I do not do much deep water but am somewhat worried about reading of some of you guys getting h20 in the engine. So to fix my insecurity, I have decided to get a snorkel and have a few questions.
1)...is one better than the other or is it just a preference on looks thing?
2)...Which would you get if buying it for yourself?
3)...Am I just being stupid for getting this to begin with being as I try to stay away from deep water?
Quadratec has the AEV in stock and I could have it by Friday for a weekend project..Not sure how fast I could get a RiverRaider.
Thanks for any advise and feedback....

Cant answer number 1
Everytime I have thought about it I have always leaned towards the RR. I like its construction and looks better than the rest
And for 3, I believe that several on here that have hydro'd a moter were in shallow water

1. RR makes high quality great looking stuff. Performance - I think they all do the same thing.
2. I would get the RR if money was no object and paint it to match. The AEV doesn't appeal to me because of the little bowl on top. I think I read they are changing or at least making something different for the top. ????? I would like to see the change.
3. No , This is protection from something that could happen (hydro lock) when you don't plan on deep water or high speed entry into lesser water. Good insurance for something that is seriously bad. Besides it looks good and is a great CAI. Looking Cool is still a good thing.

If crossing water is going to be very rare for you, save your money. All you have to do is stop at the water crossing, walk through the water yourself to see how deep it is, and then decide if you want to cross it or not.
Ask yourself this: If you came to a water crossing that was deep enough to let water into the stock intake and would result in a lot of water coming into the Jeep, are you going to attempt it even with that snorkel. If the answer is no, then save your money.

I think a snorkel is a smart idea. It oughtta be standard equipment from the factory....or at least an option. Of all of them I've looked at, I like the AEV the best. I know you gotta cut the hood or buy one of theirs, but it sure is cool.
1) I think they all do about the same thing, the main differences are style and maybe durability. Although the the "dust bowl" on the AEV intrigues me. Not that I d need a dust bowl up here, but I like gadgets
2) I was completely sold on the RR because of construction, style and RR great customer service, However AEV is really growing on me. I dont like the looks as much as the RR and Im not crazy about it being plastic, but I like the way it installs and also I really like the price. Plus the whole dust bowl gizmo
I really need to see an AEV in person before I buy one.
3) And no, I dont think you are being stupid, Im looking at one for the same exact reason.

1. Not sure
2. I like the RR look and I'd paint to match.
3. If your like me and its a daily driver and you only take it out 1-2 times a month and you avoid deep water, I'd say with all the aftermarket toys for the JK spend your money elsewhere. I agree with Yucca, would you go into deep water even if you had it? I got a true flow xdi for mine. The filter isn't as exposed as standard cai's so it protects it more from splashing. It's really expensive on quadratec but shop around, I got mine for $270 on truck customizers. with the improvement to mpg it will pay for itself in a couple of years.

I had an arb snorkel on my tj. so I'm familiar with the look of the plastic one. maybe for the same reason I don't like the rr. I'm sure I'll be getting a snorkel soon. as for real use, There are a lot more things to consider when crossing water than a snorkel. I just like the look of them.
even with a snorkel I've backed out from crossing a river. I mean by the time you need a snorkel your jeep is waaay under water.
1) They will all do the same job in keeping water out of you air intake.
2) So far, AEV.
3) If you always stay away from deep water, just don't get a snorkel. Drive slowly when you drive on shallow water.
