Default Defect or cut?

So I'm driving down a city street about 35 mph and "BLAM", right rear tire blows out. These are Duratracs with less than 4k miles. I did not find anything in the tire or on the road that could have cause a perfect cut that size. WHat do you think? On this picture, the direction of travel would be from right to left.

Have you been running over guard rails again?

Are you going to have to buy a new one or did you go to a shop that offers a protection plan?

That's something you hope happens to and old tire, so you can upgrade sooner. Sorry to hear that it happened new.

Maybe the elevation where you're at made it crack + the cold? IDK, I'm sure you can get it fixed or replaced..

That kind of looks too perfect to be a blow out but that's just me. My guess is you ran over something.

I would say you hit something. It took a chunk out of one of the lugs on the right.

I agree with abailey, it looks more like a cut than a blow out. I think maybe there was something you ran over, but it would have to be pretty solid to cut through that tire like that.
Hope you have tire protection. I purchased that with my new wheels and tires, as I had a nail in a unrepairable area on a tire with less than 400 miles on it. Never again.
