My concern would be wearing out the hinges, i have 3 boys in hockey so I am opening the tailgate a couple times a day, also it would be a pain to first open the latch and swing on a bumper carrer everytime.

Smitty built has a nice rack that spreads out the load more on the gate, its $100 bucks, I am considering that soon

Look to OR Fabs carrier. Its much more effective then the smittybuilt setup.
