Default Differential cover bolts

I'm probably nuts, but here goes.

I want to replace the bolts that came with the new Dana 44 Riddler covers for my Rubi. I want to go with Grade 8. Are there any drawbacks to doing this, cause I don't see it. I'm putting them on next weekend, it's going to take 7 days for the Engine Enamel to dry completely.

Next question, what are the threads and length of the bolts?

If you know, I'd be grateful if you'd take time to answer.

Will the stock bolts not fit? They are most likely grade 8. It's typical for manufacturers to go overkill on things like that.

I can't tell you the bolt size.. BUT I can tell you being someone who loves to "overdo" things and believes its better to have more then less.....

Don't bother. You only torque them to 28-35 ft-lbs, and due to the number of bolts on the cover and the way any shock or force would be distributed, there is absolutely no need or advantage to going with grade 8 bolts.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary!

BTW, I love my Riddler covers. One of the BEST on the market.

Riddler supplies new bolts. I believe they are grade 5 and slightly longer then stock to compensate for the extra thickness of the cover.

(can't remember the weight difference on these things compared to stock, but I was like...) GREAT covers.

They most definitely are grade 5, and I'm aware grade 8 is overkill, but the gold color against the red paint is a small part of my decision as well. The Dynatrac covers come with grade 8 and it looks good.

I snapped one of the bolts that came with the Solid covers. The Lubelockers said to torque to 35ftlbs. Later I found out the Solid recommends 28-30. So I'm using my stock covers except for two holes on each cover that don't work with the built in washer. I plant to replace them all eventually. Please post when you know the specifics. Thanks!
