Default Differential Protection

I want to begin to protect the Jeep with some armour and skid plates, and I want to begin with the differentials. How do I know what differentials I am running on my 2007 4-dr X with a tow package? I am not an expert by any means on the mechanics of the jeep. What type of differential protection do you guys prefer? Heavy covers, skids or guards?

most likely u should have dana30 on front and dana44 on rear. there were a handfull of 07 that had dana35 on them. check out this link, has lots of good info on how to tell what u have by looking at it

personal opinion, i prefer heavy covers. i think guards and skids are just one more thing hanging down to snag on something. but if the skid is close enough to the diff and doesn't hang down too much, its not a bad way to go and it might be cheaper than new covers. i stay away from the guards. i just feel there is not much protection from the guards. to be honest i really haven't heard of that many people messing up the diff covers but sometimes u can snag on a rock and bend out the lip on the bottom

If you want the strongest diff covers out there, check out http://www.greatlakeoffroad.com/diff.html
If you jeep gets blown up, you will still have diff covers.

From their web site:

Dana 44,***Dana 60
Dana 70,***Dana 80
14 bolt 10.5" R&P
14 bolt 11.5" R&P

Ford 8.8

I didn't see anything about the Dana 30 so unless you had 2 44's I don't see these doing it for you.

Oops, forgot they don't have 30's. You could get the D44 covers, then you would have to buy a matching diff to go with it. Sounds like a win win situation.

i like their warranty and how it is worded or lack there of

"Warranty ( No B.S. Fine Print )
You break it under use we replace it and add you to the hall of fame as it has never been done in the last 5 years. Our design has been engineered for strength. We weld these the proper way utilizing machined fixtures."

hell, any company will replace a broken part , BUT AT WHOS EXPENSE????

i bet you could get the riddlers and not replace them for 5 years, hell im going on 3 years with stock covers

Check out jp magazines diff cover test. Not the most scientific, but would be fun as hell.
