Default Disabling ESP Completely-Question

The manual for my 09 has a procedure for turning off the ESP completely. The instructions dont make it clear whether or not the engine is on (running) or just the ignition is on when you have to turn the steering wheel 180 degrees. So, for you guys that are in the know, is the engine running while doing the tap dance to turn it off or off?

Thanks,

Funny, I was just about to go on this forum and post the same question today! Now I know the engine is running, but here's another question, should I release the button after each "7 second" period? In other words, should I "turn and hold the steerin gwheel one-half turn to the right, press and hold the ESP OFF button for seven seconds" THEN RELEASE THE BUTTON? or do I keep holding it as I "turn the steering wheel back to center, turn and hold an ADDITIONAL one-half turn to the left."?
I can't seem to get this right.
Thanks, sorry for the hijack on this post!

Seriously Jeep, why does it need to be so complicated? I must have scewed with it for a half hour before I finally got it to turn off....then another half hour trying to get it to come back on....Sheeeeesh!

At least you got it to work. Any tips? I keep wondering if I'm not holding the wheel still enough, or if Im not turning it exactly 180 degrees. I must be doing something wrong...
