i installed a 3.5" skyjacker coil lift in april. 3 months later the repositioning bracket for the rear track bar has caused the stock bracket on the axle to break
. the mechanic tells me the only way to fix this is to machine a gusset and have it welded to the repositioning bracket, the stock bracket, and the axle.
i'm totally new to modifying jeeps and i have very little mechanical experience. i'm wondering if this has happened to other people. is it the norm or is it a design flaw of the lift that causes too much force to be directed through the stock bracket?

yeah i'm learning things the hard way. i had never seen this site before i started buying stuff for my jeep. some of the things i got seem to be less than great, but you have to start somewhere.
fixing this problem will require a skilled machinist or so i'm told

just take it to a weld shop and have them weld the bracket back on and gusset the crap out of it.
By the way enjoy this site it is awsome and pretty much any question you have will be answered
welcome aboard

First had Skyjacker lift then went to full flex 3" Teraflex. Much happier with TF.
4 days before putting on the TF lift, the rear bracket at the axle broke.
Had it rewelded, also added JKS welded brace and added bolt on TF brace
with adjustable Trackbar.

and yeah this site is amazing. such a huge wealth of knowledge. i love it
Dude call up their customer service department right away and complain your ass off about what happen and try n see if they could help you out or do something about it. There has to be some type of year warranty and you should get something out of them.

The stock axle bracket is a weak point PERIOD. Stock, lifted, no matter. The welds on it are crappy. As others have said, get it gusseted. Don't blame the lift, even though axle brackets are a cheap way of centering the axle, blame Chrysler for crappy welds.
Do a little more browsing, you'll see that this is a semi-common issue with that style of bracket. There are posts of non-lifted trackbar mounts coming apart, so adding an extended bracket simply multiplies the stress on an already weak factory weld.
Get a brace and have someone weld it up extra stout. Better yet, get an adjustable bar so you don't actually need a relo bracket. Also, just an opinion, but I wouldn't go complaining to skyjacker over something that a quick search on this site would have shown me was a known weakness.
Maybe a little off-topic, but - did you get Cam Bolts with that kit?
